OVO Charge Anytime

Everything you need to know about setting up and using your Indra EV charger with the OVO Charge Anytime electricity tariff.

+ How to set up OVO Charge Anytime

To access this tariff, you must have:

  • An Indra charger
  • An account in the Indra app that is linked with the charger
  • An OVO Energy account
  • The OVO Charge Anytime app
  • The Indra charger online (i.e. connected to the internet) (See our troubleshooting guide if you are not able to get your charger online)

In linking your Indra charger with OVO Charge Anytime, you will allow OVO to set your charging schedules on your behalf, using options you will set in the Charge Anytime app.

Before you start, make sure that you have access to

  • Indra App
  • OVO Charge Anytime App
  • Log in details for the Indra App
  • Log in details for the OVO Charge Anytime App

If you currently control your Indra charger using the legacy Indra web app (powered by Kaluza), you must create an account using the Indra mobile app before linking to OVO.

This can be done by downloading the Indra app from your App store and following the set-up instructions. Your charger will automatically be updated to access the new features as part of this process.

To get started linking OVO Charge Anytime with your Indra charger, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open the OVO Charge Anytime App

Inside the app, sign in using your OVO Energy account details and start the connection to your charger.

Step 2: Select your Indra charger and vehicle battery capacity

Choose which model of Indra charger you have and, when prompted, add the usable vehicle battery capacity of your vehicle. If you have multiple vehicles, add the one you use most often.

 

Step 3: Connect your charger

At this point a connection will be made between OVO and Indra’s systems.​

When prompted, please enter the e-mail address associated with your Indra account, even if this is different from your OVO one.​

You will be asked to verify your identify by entering a 6-digit, one time code which will have been sent to your e-mail address.

You will then be asked for your permission to share specific data and control with OVO to enable you to access their services.

 

 

Step 4: Add your address to OVO Charge Anytime

OVO Charge Anytime will prompt you for your home address, and ask for the specific location of your Indra charger.

 

Step 5: Complete

Once the charger is linked and you’ve set your location, you are done. You can now set your charging preferences in the OVO Charge Anytime app and OVO will charge your car at the cheapest times to meet your needs.

+ How to charge using OVO Charge Anytime

This guide is about how to use OVO Charge Anytime to charge your car, which is enabled by linking your Indra and OVO accounts.

Setting schedules

Once set up, OVO Charge Anytime automatically plans your charging to meet your charging needs for the cheapest price.

When linked to OVO Charge Anytime, your charging preferences are set in the OVO Charge Anytime app. You do not need to have a schedule set in the Indra app.

Setting your charging preferences

Use the OVO Charge Anytime app to say when you need your car charged by.

Cost reporting

Because of the way OVO Charge Anytime works, it is not possible for Indra to show you per-charge or summary costs for your charging. Your charging cost and savings are shown in your OVO Charge Anytime app.

Your Indra app will continue to report your charging in terms of energy and miles, including your solar breakdown.

 

Solar

If you have solar panels, you can use these alongside your OVO Charge Anytime integrated charging. This is still controlled in your Indra App via the ‘use solar’ function.

If enabled, anytime you are plugged in and OVO are not charging your car from the grid, excess energy from your Solar will be matched into your car. You can enable or disable this at any time via the Indra app

Locking your charger

You can continue to lock your charger from use via the Indra App, when linked to OVO Charge Anytime. Note that whilst the charger is locked, no new charging sessions will be permitted until the charger is unlocked.

Boost /Urgent Charge

The Indra boost function remains available to you whilst linked to OVO Charge Anytime. Boost can be started or stopped from any of:

  • The front panel of your charger
  • The Indra app
  • The Urgent Charge function of the OVO Charge Anytime App

Note: Boost / Urgent charging will not accrue the savings that OVO optimised charging does so your charging will be at your higher tariff rate.

Can I use OVO Charge Anytime with my Indra V2H Charger?

 

OVO Charge Anytime is not available for bi-directional charging. You can link any Smart PRO or Smart LUX charger to OVO Charge Anytime and still have your V2H charger serve your home.

 

I have a Indra V3 charger, is this compatible with OVO Charge Anytime?

 

Yes, Indra v3 chargers can be used with OVO Charge Anytime. If you have not done so already create an Indra account by downloading the Indra App from your app store and following the instructions provided. Once this is done you can link to your Indra v3 charger via the OVO Charge Anytime app. When prompted for your charger model, select Indra Smart PRO.

Can I use my Solar Energy with OVO Charge Anytime?

When you enable 'use solar' in the Indra app, Indra will add solar charging around any optimised charging that OVO sends. As such, you will be able to benefit from a very low rate for your charging plus being able to use your own solar when it's available.

Which App do I use when using OVO Charge Anytime?

When using OVO Charge Anytime you will set a "Ready by time" in the Charge Anytime app and OVO will then optimise your charge to meet this time. Scheduling functions in the Indra App will not work whilst linked to OVO Charge Anytime. However, the Indra App is still the place you can control whether to use your solar energy on top of your optimised charging and is also the place where you can lock and unlock your charger.

+ Troubleshooting

I cannot confirm the vehicle in the Indra App

For some users, not all data about your vehicle is available from public records. When this happens it can cause a problem where the Indra app can get 'stuck'. Our app developers are working hard to make this better. In the meantime, if you select 'I don't have an EV yet' then you can progress to setting up your charging and linking your OVO Charge Anytime account.

I get stuck on the 'Connecting to your Indra' page

Some users have reported being at the 'Connecting to your Indra' page - see screenshot below - within the OVO Charge Anytime app for long periods of time.

When you see this page, Indra and OVO are making sure everything is ready for your new optimised charging and that includes sending data from your charger to OVO to check it's working.

Please make sure your Indra charger is online if this step is taking a long time. Guidance on getting your charger online can be found here.

Cannot link charger with OVO

Some users have experienced errors linking their charger and find themselves stuck on the 'Link Your Charger' page and see the error message 'Cannot link charger with OVO as no available charger found' - see screenshot below.

This is usually because Indra does not have a record of your new account linked with your charger.

Start by downloading the Indra App from your chosen app store and following the instructions to set up your account and link your charger.

Even if you already have an Indra account using the legacy web app, a new Indra account is needed to complete the linking process.
