To mark International Women in Engineering Day, we’re celebrating two of the women helping to build and support the technology behind Indra’s smart charging products.
Women make up just 17% of the engineering and technology workforce, highlighting the need for stronger representation across the sector. That’s why days like International Women in Engineering Day matter: they help raise the profile of women engineers, challenge outdated perceptions and show the next generation that there is a place for them in engineering.
Engineering takes many forms. For some, it means working with data to create reliable insights that help a business make better decisions. For others, it means developing the cloud systems and applications that power smart technology in the real world.
For Meghana Ganatra, Data Engineer, and Talitha Gohil, Cloud Engineer, engineering is rooted in curiosity, problem-solving and the satisfaction of building things that make a difference.
We asked Meghana and Talitha to share more about their roles, what inspired them to pursue engineering, what they enjoy most about their work, and the advice they would give to girls and women considering a career in the industry.
My role revolves around designing and maintaining robust data pipelines and analytics solutions that convert complex, raw data into reliable and actionable insights. This builds the foundation that allows teams across the business to trust the information behind their dashboards, reports and strategic decisions.
Outside of work, I am a mother to an 11-year-old boy, with a deep interest in art, music and a passion for travel. Exploring new experiences and perspectives keeps me grounded and curious, and I firmly believe that the most effective engineers are those who remain open to the world around them and never stop growing..
I work across the full stack. My role focuses on building and maintaining the systems that power our smart charging technology. I enjoy the mix of cloud engineering and full stack development because it gives me variety and lets me solve problems from different angles.
Outside of work, I’m a mum of two daughters and we also have a dog at home, so life is full, busy and very lively. Balancing engineering with family life has taught me to be organised, patient and adaptable, which actually helps me a lot in my role.
For both Meghana and Talitha, engineering started with curiosity: the desire to understand how things work, solve problems and create something useful.
Curiosity has always been at the core of who I am. From an early age, I had a natural need to understand not just what existed around me, but why it existed and how it worked. Whether it was a product, a system or a process, I was never satisfied with a surface level understanding. I wanted to know what went in, how it functioned and what came out the other side. That deep-rooted instinct to question, explore and comprehend is what drew me towards engineering.
Engineering felt like the natural home for that curiosity. It is a field that rewards people who ask questions, challenge assumptions and are not afraid to dig deeper. What truly inspired me was the realisation that it is not purely a technical pursuit. At its heart, it is about building solutions that make a genuine difference to people and organisations. The idea that my work could help someone do their job better, enable a business to make smarter decisions or drive meaningful progress is what ignited my passion. The more I immersed myself in it, the more I realised that this was not just a career choice. It was a reflection of who I am.
I fell in love with engineering at university. Once I started coding properly and working on real projects, I realised how much I enjoyed the challenge of breaking down a problem and building something that actually works. That feeling of solving something tricky and seeing it come to life is what hooked me.
The problem-solving side of engineering still motivates me. It feels like a puzzle that keeps evolving and I love that.
Although their roles are different, Meghana and Talitha both talk about variety, problem-solving and the satisfaction of seeing their work make a real impact.
What I enjoy most is that my work is never the same from one day to the next. Every day presents something new, a fresh challenge to think through, a different question to answer or a problem that requires an entirely new approach. That sense of variety and discovery is what keeps me genuinely engaged.
Some of the most satisfying moments in my career have come from the problems that seemed unsolvable at first. You sit with them, explore different approaches, question your assumptions, and then gradually a path forward begins to emerge. When that solution finally comes together and creates real value for the people around you, there is a quiet sense of accomplishment that words rarely do justice to.
What strikes me most about this role is that every technical challenge has a story behind it. A team that needs clarity, a decision that is waiting on the right information, a process that could work so much better with the right solution in place. Being the person who bridges that gap, who takes something complex and makes it work for real people with real needs, is what I find most compelling about what I do every day.
I enjoy the variety. Working full stack means I’m never stuck in one area. One day I’m deep in cloud infrastructure and another day I’m adding a new field in Dynamo.
I also enjoy the collaboration. I work with people who genuinely care about what we’re building and who bring different perspectives to the table. And of course, the problem-solving element is always there. It keeps me learning and keeps the work exciting.
Both Meghana and Talitha talk about the importance of support, inclusion and having the confidence to bring your perspective to the table.
It has been a journey, but a genuinely supported one. What has made the biggest difference is having leaders who have understood that achieving a healthy work life balance has always been important to me. That kind of understanding is something I hold in the highest regard.
I have been fortunate to work in environments where my voice has been heard and where my perspective has been valued. Coming from a different country and bringing a different way of thinking could have been a challenge, but instead it has always been embraced. That experience has reinforced my belief that when people with different backgrounds and viewpoints work together, the quality of thinking improves, better questions get asked and stronger solutions are reached.
That support and sense of belonging have given me the confidence to perform at my best every single day, and it is something I hope every woman in engineering gets to experience.
It has been a mix of challenges and really positive moments. Tech is still a male dominated field and early on I definitely felt the pressure to prove myself. Over time I learned to trust my skills and speak up with confidence.
I’ve been lucky to work in teams where inclusion actually means something and where people genuinely listen. At Indra I feel respected and supported, not only as an engineer but as someone who brings a different point of view. That sense of support makes a real difference and creates an environment where it’s easy to do your best work.
Their advice is clear: stay curious, ask questions, seek out supportive people and don’t feel you need to have all the answers before you begin.
My advice is to pursue it wholeheartedly. It is a field that rewards those who are willing to learn, ask questions and embrace new challenges. You do not need to have all the answers before you begin. Confidence grows through experience. Each obstacle you navigate and each problem you solve shapes you into a stronger, more capable professional than you were the day before.
Women bring a perspective to this field that is truly invaluable. The way we think, communicate and approach problems adds a dimension that makes teams stronger and solutions better. The world needs technology and systems built by people who reflect the full breadth of human experience, and that includes you.
Seek out the right people who believe in you and will invest in your growth. A strong mentor and a circle of supportive colleagues can make an enormous difference, not just professionally but personally. Surround yourself with those who encourage you to think innovatively and who celebrate your progress along the way.
And to anyone wondering whether this career can fit around family life, the answer is yes. With the right environment and the right support, it is entirely possible to thrive in both. This field needs more diverse voices, more innovative thinkers and fresh perspectives. There is absolutely a place for you here.
Follow your curiosity. If you enjoy solving problems, you’re already on the right path. You don’t need to know everything before you start. Confidence grows with experience.
Find people who support you. Mentors, peers and communities make a huge difference. And don’t be afraid to take up space. Your perspective is valuable and engineering needs more voices like yours.
Behind the technical roles are busy, full lives. For Meghana and Talitha, family, creativity, energy and adaptability are all part of who they are — and part of what they bring to their work.
People who know me professionally might be surprised by just how much life I pack in outside of work. I am an active mum, art, music and travel are constants in my life. I would not have it any other way.
I am also the person in my circle who organises the gatherings and makes sure there is always something to celebrate. Nothing brings me more joy than bringing people together, filling a room with laughter and creating memories that last long.
I think people expect someone in a technical role to be quite serious, so they are often surprised to find that I firmly believe a life well lived is one filled with good people and great memories.
People are often surprised by how much I balance outside of work. With two kids, a dog and a busy home life, there is always something happening. But I actually enjoy the chaos. It has taught me how to stay calm, switch between tasks quickly and find humour in the small moments. Those skills end up helping me just as much in engineering as they do at home.
Meghana and Talitha’s stories show that there is no single route into engineering, and no single type of person who belongs in the field.
Engineering is about curiosity, creativity, persistence and problem-solving. It is about building systems that work, asking better questions and creating solutions that help people in the real world.
