Ready when OEMs are: Indra activates end-to-end Vehicle-to-Grid

Indra, the UK pioneer in bidirectional EV charging has successfully transitioned Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) trial participants onto a fully integrated, production-ready V2G platform.

V2G can effectively turn EVs from passive electricity users into “batteries on wheels” — mobile energy storage that can help balance the grid.

This milestone demonstrates that the infrastructure required to support mass-market V2G is already live, proven, and delivering real customer value today.

As part of this evolution, customers previously managing their chargers through Indra’s legacy web interface have been migrated to a dedicated V2G application, integrated with a smart energy service powered by Kaluza. This shift represents a decisive move away from standalone trial environments and towards fully embedded, customer-facing energy services.

Crucially, this milestone is not about extending or expanding a trial; it is about proving readiness.

Together with its technology partners, Indra has put in place the full charger-to-grid ecosystem beyond the vehicle — including bidirectional charger hardware, energy platform integration, customer controls, settlement, and live operational management — all functioning with real customers in real homes today.

Indra is also in the final stages of developing a bidirectional AC charger, designed to be fully compatible with the global standard for bidirectional charging, ISO 15118-20, and will be bringing it to market very soon.

This positions Indra strongly as automotive OEMs prepare to enable V2G-capable vehicles at scale. When OEMs are ready to activate bidirectional functionality, the charging and energy ecosystem required to support them is already in place.

“Vehicle-to-grid has spent years in pilots and proofs of concept. What we’re demonstrating now is that it works end-to-end, with real customers, real assets, and real value being delivered today. By moving customers onto a fully integrated, energy-supplier-led platform, we’re showing that V2G is no longer a future concept — it’s a commercially deployable capability, ready to scale as vehicles and markets mature.”

Simon Tate - Chief Commercial Officer, Indra

By proving interoperability between vehicles, chargers, and energy platforms in live customer environments, Indra continues to lead the transition of V2G from concept to commercial reality — enabling customers to access smarter, more flexible energy without being locked into proprietary or single-provider ecosystems.
