What is the OZEV grant?

An OZEV grant scheme, formerly known as an OLEV grant, is a special government scheme supporting the use of electric vehicles via the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). The official name of this initiative is the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS).
If you’re eligible for the OZEV grant/EVHS scheme, you’ll receive up to 75% towards the purchasing and installation of a home charging point. The maximum you can receive is £350.

OZEV or OLEV – what’s the difference?

There’s no difference between OZEV or OLEV. In November 2020, the UK government stated that all new vehicles sold must be completely zero-emission by 2035.

Following this announcement, they decided to rename the team responsible for this exciting initiative from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) to the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

OZEV grant eligibility

To meet OZEV grant requirements, your vehicle must have been approved as an ultra-low emission vehicle by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

This also includes EV vehicles that no longer qualify for the plug-in car grant, due to exceeding the category 2 or 3 price cap or are no longer on sale in the UK.

Take a look at the complete list of vehicles eligible for the OZEV grant to see if your electric vehicle is included.

How to claim the OZEV grant?

If you’re eligible to apply for an OZEV grant, you’ll need to do it through an OZEV/OLEV approved installer. You can’t do it yourself.

Once you get in touch with your nearest OZEV installer, they’ll ask you to prove that you meet the OZEV grant requirements before starting the application process. The types of evidence you’ll need to provide includes:

  • Your contact details, name and address

  • Your electric vehicle’s make, model and registration

  • Your MPAN number – you’ll find this in your welcome letter from your electricity supplier or on your bill. It might come under ‘supply number’ and is usually 21 digits long

  • Your order details or leasing/finance agreement details for your electric vehicle

  • A letter proving it’s a company car (if applicable)

All OZEV applications are usually processed within 30 days. When everything is approved, your trusty installer will deduct the OZEV grant from your final invoice. And that’s it, a stress-free way to save yourself some money off your Smart PRO EV charger.
