Indra is giving EV drivers more ways to reduce the cost of charging at home with the addition of EDF’s smart charging bolt-on for its two EV tariffs GoElectric and Evolve tariffs.
Indra’s smart chargers are tariff agnostic — customers aren’t tied to one energy provider or plan. With this latest integration, Indra chargers now work with four of the UK’s best-known EV saver tariffs: EDF Smart Charging bolt-on, E.ON Next Drive Smart, Octopus Intelligent Octopus Go, and OVO Charge Anytime — offering the UK’s most comprehensive smart EV tariff compatibility across major energy providers.
Charging-cost savings (EDF estimate): EDF says customers on GoElectric can save £280 compared with its Standard Variable tariff, and that adding Smart Charging can save up to an additional £275 a year — a potential annual saving of £555 (based on EDF’s assumptions and eligibility). EDF also offers a £5/month bill credit for customers who stay opted in and use Smart Charging regularly (terms apply).
Indra customers who want to benefit from EDF Smart Charging can sign up with EDF and then connect their Indra charger in the EDF app — the simplest route because it’s a set-up we know is compatible.
EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on is designed to make charging simpler and more cost-effective by shifting it to cheaper, lower-carbon periods.
The Smart Charging bolt-on provides customers with additional off-peak charging beyond EDF's standard 12am–5am window, with EDF automatically managing charging when electricity is cheapest and greenest. Customers set their charging preferences and receive a personalised daily charging schedule, letting them know when their off-peak hours will be each day.
For Indra customers, the simplest route is to connect your Indra charger in the EDF app — a set-up we know is compatible — then plug in and set a “ready by” time. To avoid clashes, any existing charging schedules should be switched off so Smart Charging can do its job.
With compatibility spanning four major EV saver tariffs across the UK’s leading energy providers, Indra offers the most comprehensive smart tariff line-ups available — so customers can choose the plan that suits them and switch as their needs change.
Indra’s smart chargers are built to work across suppliers and a growing range of smart EV tariffs, giving customers the freedom to choose the energy plan that suits their household.
There’s no need to be locked into one provider to access smart charging. By expanding compatibility across major suppliers, Indra helps customers choose the best option for them today — and switch if their needs change tomorrow.
“EV drivers shouldn’t have to change their routines to benefit from cheaper charging — and they certainly shouldn’t be tied to a single tariff to make it work.
Indra is tariff-agnostic by design. By adding EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on alongside E.ON Next Drive Smart, Octopus Intelligent Go and OVO Charge Anytime, we’re giving drivers even more choice to cut charging costs and charge at greener times, with smart scheduling taken care of automatically in the background”

Simon Tate, Indra's Chief Commercial Officer
Smart EV tariffs don’t just help drivers save money — they also support a more sustainable energy system. Aligning charging with periods of lower carbon intensity helps reduce pressure on the grid and increases the use of renewable energy.
If your home has solar panels, you can boost your savings and sustainability further by topping up with free, carbon-zero solar energy.
To use a smart EV tariff, drivers typically download the energy company’s app and link it to either their car or charger. While each supplier works slightly differently, the apps generally shift charging to cheaper, greener times — helping make the grid more efficient.
Indra offers how-to guides to help customers connect their charger using each supplier’s app.
Smart EV tariffs can be a big money saver for many, but they’re not right for everyone — we encourage drivers to consider their own circumstances before choosing a supplier and tariff.
