A Surge Protection Device (SPD) protects your home and electrical equipment from power surges — sudden spikes in voltage caused by lightning, faults in the electricity network, or switching events.
SPDs help prevent damage to sensitive electronics, including your EV charger and vehicle, giving you peace of mind and protecting your investment.
Adding an SPD:
It’s a small addition that can save big headaches and costs in the future.
UK wiring regulations require consideration of surge protection. According to the latest update to the 2018 British Standard for electrical installations, including EV chargers - BS 7671:2018 +A2:2022
“Protection against transient overvoltages shall be provided where the consequence could result in serious injury, loss of life, or significant financial or data loss. For all other cases, protection shall be provided unless the owner of the installation declares it is not required and accepts the risk"
For EV chargers, SPDs are strongly recommended because surges can damage your charger or other equipment.
At checkout, you can add an SPD to your EV charger order. Selecting it ensures:
If you choose not to add it, please note that your charger and electronics may be at higher risk from power surges.
Adding an SPD is a simple and cost-effective way to protect your EV charger and home. For peace of mind and long-term protection, we recommend including it with your order.
