Over the past couple of months, we have been designing and building an electric wheelchair for a man with Motor neurone disease, Jason Liversidge has been living with this crippling disease now for around 5 years and has done some incredible things despite his condition, including abseiling from the Humber Bridge in East Yorkshire to zipping down the longest and fastest zip wire in Europe!
His next adventure is to achieve the Guinness World Record attempt of the fastest electric wheelchair – hoping to hit speeds of up to 100 mph.
Our Vehicle Integration Team are adapting an off-the-shelf wheelchair and upping the power from 1200 Watts to 45kW, changing the standard wheels to super-kart wheels and are providing joystick control of steering and acceleration with added regen braking.
The wheelchair record attempt is set for October, and we are extremely looking forward to seeing Jason speed down the runway.
