Engineering Manager

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to help develop Indra's engineering function at both a strategic and operational level. As Engineering Manager, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team covering all elements of hardware, firmware / software, electronics, production readiness and quality engineering.

You will need to have a good awareness of the external market, engage with relevant national and international regulatory bodies and develop relationships with key stakeholders.


You will develop and lead the engineering capability and performance of the business, with key responsibilities including:

  • Ownership of technical governance and quality of all engineering deliverables

  • Technical leadership, mentoring and management of the engineering team

  • Manage engineering team task delivery against Time, Cost and Quality requirements

  • Working with both internal and external stakeholders to provide suitable guidance and judgement regarding methods, approaches, standards, and best practice

  • Provide strong technical representation for Indra to clients providing reassurance of Indra’s technical ability and the overall quality of the work delivered

  • Solve problems at a project level using experience and lateral thinking knowing when to call on external input

  • Support bidding activities and the production of detailed proposal documents from a technical perspective with responsibility for final technical sign-off

  • Support the design and engineering process through reviewing and checking colleagues’ work

  • Contribute to the strategic development of the team’s technical capability

Essential Skills:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Preferably a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with membership of an appropriate institution

  • Experience in the following technical areas:

    • Power electronics, specifically inverters and battery systems

    • Mechanical and electrical design

    • Firmware / software development

    • Relevant consumer product guidelines and certifications to achieve CE

  • Experienced in engineering best practices and how to embed and manage effective processes

  • Strong interpersonal and management skills with experience of managing and developing engineering teams to meet business needs

  • Thorough understanding of the lifecycle, through life costs, configuration control, safety and environmental aspects of a project

  • Demonstrable experience of managing product development from requirements capture through options development, concept design, scheme design, detailed design and manufacture through to installation, testing and commissioning

  • A proven track record of delivering complete technical solutions within challenging timescales

  • Ability to act as a mentor to the engineering team promoting continuous improvement and technical innovation

  • Champion safe working practices within the design process and the workplace

Desirable Skills:

  • Good understanding of engineering project financial reporting and forecasting

  • A desire to be challenged and to contribute to the success of the business
